Group Psychotherapy

We offer various therapeutic groups to support our clients’ unique emotional journeys. These groups include:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training Group

We offer separate DBT skills groups for both adolescents, young adults, and adults.

Designed for individuals struggling with impulsive behaviors and emotion dysregulation, participants will learn to develop and implement mindfulness skills, regulate their emotions, better tolerate distress, communicate with others more effectively, and improve balance in their thought, behavior, and daily lives.

Our DBT groups run on a weekly basis for approximately 6 months and cover the 5 core modules of DBT:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Emotion Regulation
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Building Balance

DBT Skills Group

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment for disordered eating. Our DBT Skills Group helps individuals better regulate their emotions and develop adaptive strategies for challenging problematic behaviours like restriction, bingeing, and purging. This group also addresses the underlying emotion dysregulation at the core of Eating Disorders and guides clients in better understanding and managing their emotional constellation of symptoms. Our DBT groups are specifically adapted to support individuals with eating-related concerns.

Caregiver Support DBT Skills Group

This group is designed to support individuals living with or loving those struggling with behavioural or emotion regulation issues. This group supports participants in better understanding the struggles of their loved one, and teaches specific skills and strategies to respond more effectively, abstain from reinforcing problematic behaviours, improve communication and connection, and ultimately support recovery.

Radically Open DBT Skills Group

Designed for individuals struggling with over-regulation of their emotions, perfectionism, and rigidity, participants will learn specific strategies to improve cognitive flexibility, openness, and social connectivity in their lives in order to achieve greater balance.

Customized Therapy Groups

TPWG liaises with businesses and individuals to create customized treatment groups to meet their needs. These groups can be offered at our clinic, off-site, or virtually. Examples of customized groups completed include:

  • DBT skills training for students in schools;
  • postpartum support for community groups;
  • body image and eating disorder prevention groups for athletes and artists;
  • and supporting the mental health of employees within the workplace.

We are incredibly passionate about customizing group treatment that will meet the needs of clients and businesses, and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate creatively with those interested.

Motivational Enhancement Therapy for Eating Disorders

This six-session group will provide clients with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their eating disorder, identify tensions or inconsistencies between the way life is going now and how they wish for it to be, and then make informed choices about how they wish to proceed with their recovery. Based on the principles of Motivational Interviewing, this group is designed to produce quick and meaningful internally motivated change.

Body Satisfied

This six-session group will explore thoughts and behaviours that may keep the client locked into body distress. It will provide practical strategies and a framework for moving away from harsh self-criticism and toward body acceptance and compassion. The content of this group includes principles and techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Self-Compassion, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
