Zoey Zuo, M.A., Ph.D. Candidate
Clinical Therapist
Zoey Zuo is a Ph.D. Candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She completed her doctoral residency at London Health Sciences Centre, where a significant focus of her training was the treatment of eating disorders. She works with children, adolescents, and adults, provides services in both English and Mandarin, and is committed to providing affirming and culturally responsive care to clients from diverse backgrounds and identities.
Zoey has received clinical training across a range of hospital, rehabilitation, university, research, and private-practice settings. Her experience includes London Health Sciences Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and the University of Toronto Scarborough Health & Wellness Centre. She has worked with clients across levels of care and with a broad range of concerns, including eating disorders and disordered eating, body image concerns, mood difficulties, emotion dysregulation, perfectionism, self-harm and suicidality, trauma, interpersonal challenges, life-transition concerns, and cognitive changes.
Zoey has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with eating disorders. Her training has included evidence-based approaches such as Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E), Family-Based Treatment (FBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) approaches for eating disorders. She values working collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary treatment teams when appropriate and recognizes that recovery can look different across individuals and stages of life.
More broadly, Zoey takes an integrative, evidence-based approach to therapy and draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. She has extensive experience with DBT and DBT-informed treatment and supporting clients with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal challenges, and patterns of behaviour that may feel difficult to change.
Zoey approaches therapy with warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. She strives to create a relationship that feels human and non-hierarchical, where clients are treated as equal partners and have meaningful agency in deciding what they want to work toward and how they want to get there. She views clients as experts in their own lived experiences and aims to offer a space where difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be discussed openly and without judgment. She works alongside clients to understand what matters to them and move toward a version of life that feels meaningful, fulfilling, and enjoyable to live.
Alongside her clinical work, Zoey’s doctoral research studies psychology using computational methods, including the application of machine learning and language models in mental health.
Outside of work, Zoey enjoys travelling, reading, experimenting in the kitchen, and going to the movies.
