Andrea Aternali, MA, Ph.D. (Candidate)
Clinical Therapist
Andrea Aternali is set to complete her Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at York University. She works with adults, older adolescents, and couples. She helps clients experiencing a range of concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, emotion-regulation difficulties, trauma, grief, stress, challenges related to health conditions, and relationship concerns.
Andrea’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and client-centered. Her approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and is tailored to each individual’s unique goals, strengths, and lived experiences. She draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), while taking a holistic perspective that considers the biological, psychological, and social factors influencing mental health.
Andrea completed her pre-doctoral residency in Health and Rehabilitation Psychology with the London Clinical Psychology Residency Consortium. In this role, she provided assessment and intervention services to individuals living with seizures, chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, and other long-term medical conditions. Prior to residency, Andrea completed two external practica during her doctoral training. The first was at Maplehurst Correctional Complex, where she worked with men and women in medium- to maximum-security settings presenting with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use, and forensic-related concerns. The second was at the Toronto General Hospital, where she completed rotations within the Transitional Pain Service and the GoodHope Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Clinic. She provided treatment to individuals coping with chronic pain, joint hypermobility, gastrointestinal conditions, and fatigue.
Outside of her professional work, Andrea enjoys travelling, long walks with her dog, and crafting while listening to a good audiobook.
