Alexis Silver, BASc., MPH, RD.
Alexis Silver is a Registered Dietitian who received her Master of Public Health at the University of Toronto, Dalla Lana School of Public Health. During her Masters, Alexis interned at the University Health Network where she spent time working with clients in the inpatient Eating Disorders Program at Toronto General Hospital. Prior to this, Alexis completed her Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition and Food from Ryerson University.
Before joining Toronto Psychology & Wellness Group, Alexis worked as part of an interdisciplinary team at Lakeridge Health Oshawa outpatient Eating Disorders Program. During this time, Alexis provided both individual nutrition counselling to adults and adolescents struggling with disordered eating, eating disorders, intuitive eating, and overall healthy lifestyle eating. Alexis has completed training in Family-Based Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa and frequently draws upon this important therapeutic modality while working with adolescent clients and their respective caregivers. She also has knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Using a gentle, collaborative, and non-judgmental approach to care, Alexis applies her training in Health Literacy and Motivational Interviewing to elicit client change. She also has experience co-facilitating group programs such as the 20-week Making Changes group for Binge-Eating Disorder, and workshop series for parents of adolescents suffering from an eating disorder.
Grounded in compassion and empathy, Alexis takes an evidence-based approach to support her clients to normalize their eating patterns, interrupt their eating disorder behaviours, and ultimately develop a healthier relationship with food. Alexis works hard to develop a therapeutic relationship with all of her clients and is mindful of the lived experiences that undoubtedly play a role in their nutrition care plan. Outside of work, Alexis loves to travel, try new restaurants and read.
